A project focused on reintroducing
the arts into the lives of students who are no longer able to benefit from an arts education in their school district.

the problem

In recent years, many school districts have suffered from budget cuts, resulting in the cutting of art programs to focus mainly on other academic priorities.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

While private schools and those in higher-income areas have access to more funding by being able
to raise more money in their communities, lower-income school districts do not have as much access to those resources.

This means that low income schools are impacted the most by these budget cuts.

why does this matter?

“Students who have arts-rich experiences in school do better across-the-board academically, and they also become more active and engaged citizens, voting, volunteering, and generally participating at higher rates than their peers.”

my goal

With this degree project, my goal is to reintroduce the arts into
the lives of students who are no longer able to benefit from an arts education in their school district.

why?

I WANT STUDENTS TO HAVE ACCESS TO A FORM
OF CREATIVE OUTLET, SO THAT THEY MAY BENEFIT FROM IT IN SIMILAR WAYS AS I AND OTHERS HAVE.
ART EDUCATION AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION PLAYS
A FUNDAMENTAL ROLE IN WORKING TOWARDS LOWERING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP.

THIS PROJECT WILL FOCUS ON MIDDLE
AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN
LOW-INCOME AREAS WHO'S SCHOOL
DISTRICTS ARE NOT ABLE TO OFFER
ART EDUCATION DUE TO BUDGET CUTS.
